The best way to put your finger on the beating pulse of the Karst and to get a taste of the life of its inhabitants is by attending one of the numerous events and festivities, or just by visiting one of the towns, as the locals will be sure to give you a warm welcome.

Alongside the numerous natural and cultural points of interest and the pearls hiding beneath the Karst surface, it has to be noted that its location makes the Karst the perfect starting point for taking a trip to either the Slovenian or Italian coast. The nearby Adriatic is an ideal opportunity for an active excursion. Just a few minutes’ drive is all it takes to get to Piran, Portorož, Koper, Izola, or Strunjan, with the Sečovlje Salina Nature Park. The Italian side of the border also has numerous hidden gems, especially Sistiana, Devino and the authentic fishing village Villaggio dei Pescatori. Trips to nearby Trieste or Venice are also just a short drive away.

Lipica – One of the Oldest Stud Farms in the World

Lipica – One of the Oldest Stud Farms in the World

Lipica is one of the most pristine green pearls of the Karst, the home of the Stud Farm with more than four centuries of history.

In 1580 became the stud farm to the court, which makes it one of the oldest stud farms in the world, and a unique piece of cultural and natural heritage. During the reign of Maria Theresa of Austria the Slovenian classic horse breed, the Lipizzaner was developed. It is known for its white-gray color, its noble posture, and elegance of movement.
These characteristics made the Lipizzaner riding school one of the most famous and respected globally. Today the Stud Farm has more than 400 Lipizzaner horses and hosts numerous events every year, such as the international dressage competition.

Golfers will also enjoy Lipica and a visit to The Valley of Our Lady of Lourdes is also interesting, where an open air church is located in a sinkhole.
